This is by far the best can opener I've used in fifty-some years of opening cans. After the first time I used it I retired my old electric to the garbage. The thick handles feel solid and give you a good grip. It cuts through cans like butter. I'm thinking about buying a second one just in case something ever happens to the one I've got. I've had it for about three years and had no problems of any kind. I don't remember if the instructions said you could put it in the dishwasher.
